Trying out for cantamath! Part 5!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. In week 8 of term 3 in maths, we had to do another cantamath session. We went into the hall and had to be in teams to compete. But I couldn't go with my friends because I had to be in the cantamath team because I made it into the team. We came first out of all the year 8's. Some of the questions were easy and some were hard.

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This week for maths we did another try out for cantamath. Well it wasn't really a try out it was more a workshop about what cantamath is. This week for it we had to do another round of normal cantamath. It was a bit harder this time though. But that was fine.

Trying out for Cantamath! Part 3!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This week for maths we were doing cantamath again. For the first session we had to do cantamath questions. Except this time we were by ourselves. The new questions did get really hard but I eventually got them all done. In the second session we had to do a lot of way harder maths questions. I only got 3/10 of the questions correct. I am not sure if I will make it into the cantamath team but we will just have to wait and see.

Trying out for Cantamath! Part 2!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. In week four for maths we had to have a session about trying out cantamath. I was put into the group without really wanting to. But it doesn't seem that bad anymore. The questions got quite tricky though. All we really did was answer questions in a group. Basically like cantamath.

Trying out for Cantamaths!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. In week 3 of term 3 we had a cantamath taster where we would basically just try it out and think about if we wanted to do it or not. On the first day we tried it out by doing the running and working on the maths problems. The hardest one probably was where we had to find out the sum of the first fifty numbers of fifty. So that is basically 1+2+3+4 and so on. What I did was add all the first ten together which equals 55 and then added on 100 for each set of ten. Eventually my team reached the answer which was 1275.

We have four goals for maths this week!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. This week for maths we had four different goals to achieve this week. These are the goals: 

Relate 3D models to 2D representations, and vice versa, Identify
and describe 2D and 3D shapes using mathematical language,
Identify and sort 2D and 3D shapes into classes. Define the properties of the shapes and justify the decisions made, Represent objects with drawings and models.

We had to do many things.
  1. We had to create two different shapes and one of them needed to be a net. The first one is the net of a icosihedron. The next is of a icosidodecahedron.
  2. Next we had to classify nine different shapes. 
  3. Then finally we had to create two different shapes out of multi-link cubes. These are the pictures.

Back to normal! Maths in week 8!

Maths for week 7! First week back to normal!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. In week seven we finally got back to the way things normally were in the kaupeka hub. We had workshops, we would timetable, it was all back to normal. In week 7 for maths we had to make a resource for others to use. This is what I made.

Finally back at school! Maths for week 9!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. This week for maths we had many different goals to try and tick off. The goals I had to do were: 

1.Use side or edge lengths to find the perimeters of rectangles,parallelograms, and triangles.

2.Use a variety of strategies to calculate the area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles.

3.Use side or edge lengths to find the volumes of cuboids.

4.Convert between metric units, using whole numbers and commonly used decimals.

5.Use appropriate scales, devices, and metric units to accurately measure length.

6.Use appropriate scales, devices, and metric units for weight (mass).

7.Use appropriate scales, devices, and metric units for temperature.

We had seven different goals to tick off. For the create we just had to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) that showed that we had done the goals. This is what I made:

The last week of online school. Making a scatter graph.

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This week we had to create a scatter graph. A scatter graph is a graph that has dots instead of lines. We had to create a DLO including the question I chose to research, the actual chart and my statements. I put it on a slide and this is the end result.

Another week of school at home. My two way table!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. This is the fourth week of online school and for maths this week we were learning about tables. Not actual tables but tables that have data. I had to create my own using a two way table. This one I created is all made up so none of it is true I just had to write three claims about it and I was done. This is what I made.

Our first week at online school! This is my maths task!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. As you probably already know we are in lock-down which means we can't go to school. But we can do learning at home, thanks to google meet. We have been using it to talk to our teachers and peers and sometimes our friends in the spare time. Anyway this weeks goal for maths for me was: Identify and use the features of a figure that do not change as it is reflected, rotated, translated or enlarged. We had to create a tessellation. A tessellation is a shape that has been multiplied to create a pattern but there can be no gaps. You can use many shapes to create a tessellation like a square, triangle and hexagon. You can not use a circle though. Only because it will leave gaps. This is my tessellation that I made.

Maths Geometry 3D and 2D shapes!

I tried to do the rectangular prism cause I thought it would be challenging and it was a bit.

Stanford Lagunita course!

Hello and welcome back. Throughout the term we have been doing the Stanford Lagunita course.
In lesson 1 we were learning about what math is and finding out other things that math really is.
In lesson 2 we learned about having a growth mindset during math because if you have a growth mindset you achieve more. Where as if you have a fixed mindset then you not opening yourself up to new things.
In lesson 3 we learned about making mistakes and about speed. You do NOT have to be fast at math because most successors in math actually are slow and take their time to work out the equation. And mistakes help your brain grow because you are learning off what you have done wrong.
In lesson 4 we learned about making connections and that you can work with others to get the answer because then everyone contributes ideas and maybe if you put them altogether then you could get the answer.
In lesson 5 we learned about number patterns and that math can be all to do with patterns. Sometimes you just need to find the pattern and you have the answer.
And in lesson 6 we learned about math in life and the spiral that Fibonacci found out. Image result for fibonacci spiral 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21
