Sentences for the Fantastics! Reading in Week 1!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This week for reading we were focusing on the fantastics. They are a group of senses that you can use in writing and read in reading. We had to copy and paste 9 different sentences that have the different fantastics in them. Here is what I made:

Pearl in the Ice

Fantastics

Sentences:

Feeling

Marina felt the tug of a sad, lonely sort of sickness.

Asking

Hand out, feel for the broken stump, swing

to a sitting position and then slowly stand up to edge

along the branch towards the trunk.

Noticing

She looked up at the blue sky through the lace of

green leaves;

Touching

Hand out, feel for the broken stump, swing

to a sitting position and then slowly stand up to edge

along the branch towards the trunk.

Action

Marina pushed her leg over the branch and then

levered her body upwards, hidden once more amongst

the leaves.

Smelling

I pass through a kitchen where the

smell of food – meaty, garlicky – makes my mouth

water, though I mustn’t let it distract me.

(This is from a different book. I couldn’t find anything for smelling in this book. The book is called, Sky Chasers.)

Tasting

She rolled it up

and put it in her mouth as if it were a cigar.

Imagining

What would it be like, she thought, to be the pilot of

that cloudship, sedately patrolling the skies over the

rooftops of London?

Checking

one of the new airships of the king’s fleet

floated slowly above her, serene and silent as a cloud.

Have you ever used the fantastics in your writing before? Tell me in the comments. Goodbye.

How to be normal! Reading for week 10!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. This week for reading we were learning about synthesising. Synthesising is when we read a text and then change our thinking about the text we have read. The goal was: Think while reading, pick up new information, and come up with new ideas and new thinking. We had to create a DLO that showed what Synthesising means. This is what I made:
What do you think normal means? Tell me in the comments. Goodbye.

Reading in week 8! Designing acrostic poem, book cover and diary entry!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. This week for reading we had a different thing to do. We had to have read a book and make something about. We had to make three different things. These are what I made.

1. Fowl Twins acrostic poem:
2. Harry Potter diary entry:

Harry Potter Diary Entry

23rd of July 1991

Today was a weird day for me. Today I got a letter from a very weird place. It came from a school called Hogwarts. I had never heard of it so I went to open the letter and my annoying cousin Dudley just had to ruin it by grabbing the letter and yelling, “Harry's got a letter!” Then it got worse. My uncle Vernon grabbed the letter and questioned me about it. Then burnt it.

30th of July 1991

Today is Sunday. And that means no letters today. But the one thing I hated was when my uncle had to rub it in my face. I had been getting letters all week and watching Vernon burning them or cutting them up. But today there would be none of that. Until there was. I brought the cookies, that my aunt Petunia had made, over to my uncle who was sitting there with an evil, smug look on his face. “Fine day Sunday. What happens on Sunday Dudley?” Vernon aksed. Dudley just stuffed himself with a cookie and shrugged. I replied with, “Theres no mail on Sunday.” “Yes, right you are Harry. No mail on Sunday. No sir.” But that was when it got interesting. Suddenly letters from Hogwarts came flying through everything. Literally everywhere. The chimney, the toaster, the door and even the oven. Vernon went crazy and sent us to a new house where the letters wouldn’t come.

31st of July 1991

I was still awake as it hit 12:00am on my birthday. I had drawn a birthday cake on the ground with the dust. Then I blew out the dust candles. Suddenly I heard the door banging. I got out of my sleeping bag and hid behind the wall. The door collapsed on the ground and a giant of a man strolled into the house as if he could just walk in whenever. Vernon and Petunia came down the stairs with a shotgun and Dudley stood in the middle of the room. “You’ve grown a lot since I last saw you, Harry. Especially round the middle.” “I…  I’ m not Harry,” stuttered Dudley. “I’m Harry.” I stepped around the corner. “Well of course you are.” The giant reached into his pocket and handed me a box. “Happy Birthday.” I opened the box and inside was a cake the said, ‘Happee Birthday Harry.’ “Thanks. Who exactly are you?” “I am Rubeus Hagrid, keeper of keys at Hogwarts. You have probably heard a lot about that place.” “No. No I haven’t,” I replied. Then my uncle butted in. “I am not having him go to a school for a old man to teach him magic tricks!” Then Hagrid got mad. “How dare you speak about Albus Dumbledore to me like that.” Hagrid pulled out his umbrella and pointed it at Dudley who had started eating the cake. Then Dudley grew a pigs tail and started to scream like a pig. Hagrid handed me a letter and said, “Are you coming?” Hagrid walked out the door and I walked out as well.

First week back to normal! Reading about wind chimes!

Kia Ora! Haere mai and welcome back to my blog. In week 7 for reading we read a book called wind chimes. It is about two kids who were kidnapped and then they escaped from the people that took them. We had to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) that shows the relationship between the two characters. This is what I made.
Have you read this book before? Tell me in the comments. Goodbye.

Finally back at school! Reading for week 9!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. This week for reading we had to create a DLO that proves that we showed these three goals. Identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about. Identify at least one important idea and justify why it is important. Identify several ideas, discuss the author's stance or purpose, and understand relationships in the text.
This is the DLO that I made.
I think that it is bad what people have done to people with different coloured skin. What do you think about this? Tell me in the comments below. Bye

Week 5 of lock-down school. Reading about the Spinosaurus.

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This is the fifth week of lock-down school. This week for reading we had to read about one text and I chose one about the famous dinosaur, the Spinosaurus. I would explain some facts about it now but they are all in the DLO. We had to create a DLO that has a summary of the article, three questions you have for the author, 2 facts and your opinion. This is what I made.
If you have read this article what questions would you ask the author? Or the scientists? Tell me in the comments below. Goodbye.

Fourth week of online school! Prior knowledge!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. This week is the fourth week of online schooling. This week for reading we were learning about prior knowledge. I read a book about a kid telling his granddad about a cricket match. We had to make a DLO that showed the actual text and my prior knowledge. This is my DLO.

Have you ever had to use prior knowledge to understand what you are reading? Tell me in the comments. Goodbye.

Our third week of online schooling! Reading about Anzac day!

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog. This week for reading we had to read books about Anzac day. I choose to read the book Lest we Forget. It is about people interveiwing the soldiers that survived in Gallipoli in World War I. We had to create something that said three main events, why you think this is important and what it made you think about. This is what I made.
What do you know about Anzac day? Tell me in the comments below. Goodbye.

Our second week of online learning. This is my reading task!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. As you already know we are in lock-down because of the spread of Covid-19. So we have been doing school work online. For reading this week in lock-down we had to create an info-graphic about the difference between real news and fake news. This is the info-graphic that I made.
Have you ever created an info-graphic before? Have you ever been fooled by fake news? Tell me in the comments. Goodbye.

Our first week at school in Lock-down! This is my reading task!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. As you already know we are in lock-down so we can't go to school. But there is this really cool website/app called google meet. Reading about Caritas in Papua New Guinea!

Kia Ora and welcome back to my blog. This week for reading we had to read about Caritas in Papua New Guinea. We had to read about new things we found out in the text. We also had to write down our thoughts about this. I worked with Christopher to create a Caritas in Papua New Guinea digital brainstorm on google drawings. The goal was: Use knowledge from text to combine with new ideas (own and others) to come up with new thinking. This is what we did. When reading you want to follow the coloured lines so if you want to read about the seashells in Papua New Guinea you would go to the centre of the picture and follow the purple line to the fact and then keep following to the part about what we think about the fact.
Have you ever made something like this before? Tell me in the comments. Goodbye.

We had to comment on it to tell if our predictions where correct or not.
Have you done this before? Tell me in the comments. Goodbye.

Reading Create task Week 1,2 and 4!

Hello and welcome back to my blog. In week 1,2 and 4 we had for goals to tick of for reading: Make connections between texts and own life experiences, using more sophisticated texts. Identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about. Identify at least one important idea and justify why it is important. Use knowledge from text to combine with new ideas (own and others) to come up with new thinking. We had to write on a doc explaining the book using these goals. Here is what it looks like.
The picture in the middle is the book I read. It is called my name is Rez. Each box has a link to my answers. It was pretty simple to do. But not when you don't understand a word of what one of the goals means.

Have you read this book before? Tell me in the comments. Goodbye
